(ĐN)- Since the beginning of this year, Dong Nai Children Hospital received 997 children suffering from foot-hand-mouth disease, which is highly infectious.

(ĐN)- Since the beginning of this year, Dong Nai Children Hospital received 997 children suffering from foot-hand-mouth disease, which is highly infectious.

Two serious cases being treated at the hospital are a 8-month-old baby from Dinh Quan district and a18-month-old baby in Bien Hoa city. The babies were taken to hospital five days ago when they were diagnosed at grade 3, with high fever, and rash on the mouth.

Hand-foot-mouth disease is a common viral illness among children under the age of three, especially those between 6 months and 12 months, who contract the disease easily and their condition deteriorates rapidly.

The disease is considered highly dangerous as it can quickly give rise to fatal complications like respiratory decline, meningitis and heart muscle inflammation.

There is no vaccine to protect against the viruses that cause the disease.
