(ĐN)- On April 8, Mr Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment under the Health Ministry had a working session in Dong Nai on preventing and controlling Zika virus infection.

Accordingly, the provincial Department of Health is urged to take drastic measures to prevent and fight the disease, such as spraying chemicals on a large scale to kill mosquito and taking sample tests in the community.

Locals are advised to protect themselves and their families using mosquito repellent, and securely cover all containers of water to prevent mosquitoes from entering them and laying eggs.

Presently, Dong Nai has no cases of Zika virus. However, there is a high risk that the virus may enter and spread through the province.

Zika is mainly transmitted through the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which also carries dengue fever. The virus has been linked to microcephaly, a condition that causes babies to be born with unusually small heads and, in the vast majority of cases, brain damage. Currently there is no vaccine or specific medicine to treat the disease.

At the same day, the delegation inspected Zika virus prevention works at Tan An commune’s Health Station, Vinh Cuu district and Thong Nhat district General Hospitals.
