Two days ago, Chien was admitted to the hospital with swelling legs and a big abdominal tumor, which caused breathing difficulties.

Doctors diagnosed that the 100-year-old patient’s internal organs were pressed by a giant tumor. To save the patient, doctors had to persuade her relatives to approve an operation.

The surgery took place on March 8 afternoon. After 3 hours of operation, doctors took out a 13kg tumor from the patient's body.

Doctor Ngo Duc De, head of the surgical team, said the tumor occupied the entire abdomen, covering the internal organs.

During the surgery, doctors had to use seven units of blood.

"This is the first time I had to cut out  such a big tumor from an elderly patient. Luckily, the surgery was successful," Dr. De said.

Ms. Chien recovered after the operation.

According to the patient’s family, the tumor was discovered by doctors at Cho Ray Hospital (HCM City) two years ago. However, the doctors did not conduct surgery because the patient was old and the tumor was not too big.
