(ĐN)- Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long late last week had a working session with Dong Nai province on dengue fever prevention and treatment.
Accordingly, he noted preventive measures to fight virus-bearing mosquitoes, eradicate environments favorable for mosquitoes to lay eggs and larvae to grow.
Mr. Long said that local governments and health sector must be more determined in prevention. Dong Nai needs to spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes and organize movement to destroy water containers this month.
A total of 4,500 cases of dengue fever have been reported in Dong Nai so far this year, an increase of 1.6 times compared to the same period last year. Currently, 9 out of 11 districts in province have reported outbreaks of dengue fever. Local hospitals are overloaded with more hospitalized patients and the number of dengue fever spiraled every day.
Speaking at the session, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tri of the provincial People’s Committee (PC) said that the PC would increase efforts to fight dengue fever in the locality. Particularly, the province will give detailed instructions on how to prevent the disease to local residents. Information on dengue fever prevention will be also publicized on public places in the province. Besides, the health sector will send more medical workers to areas with outbreaks to help with efforts to prevent dengue fever.
On this occasion, the Deputy Minister inspected the disease prevention and treatment in Trang Dai ward and Dong Nai Children Hospital.
