The World Health Organisation says dengue fever is one of the most rapidly spreading infectious diseases in the world, and the ASEAN countries are among those most affected.
According to the provincial Preventive Medicine Center, over 1,200 dengue cases, including two deaths, have been reported in Dong Nai so far this year. Bien Hoa city saw the highest number of dengue cases with 868 cases reported. It is estimated that dengue fever will outbreak and widely spread in the time coming.
At the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee requested the health department and relevant sector to work closely to implement drastic measures to prevent dengue fever outbreaks.
On this occasion, the Health Department launched the program on hand-washing with soap in order to respond the patriotic hygiene movement prevent as well as increase people’s health.
ASEAN and its 10 member countries and the World Health Organisation (WHO) named June 15 as the ASEAN Dengue Day, with the aim of raising public awareness and strengthening coordination among countries in the prevention and fight against the disease.
