Entitled ‘Young doctors follow Uncle Ho’s teaching to volunteer for community’s health’, the programme will also provide free eye surgery for 1,000 elderly citizens and free first aid training for 5,000 teachers from 700 kindergartens and preschools nationwide.
It targets to receive 13,000 blood units from volunteers and host events nationwide to invite 50,000 children to wash their hands with soap in order to prevent disease.
In Hanoi, the event will take place at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts, where 500 policy beneficiaries and poor immigrant workers will receive free medicine and handouts while 500 women will receive free screenings and introduction of prevention and control of breast cancer and cervical cancer.
According to the Chairman of Vietnam Young Doctors’ Association (VYDA) Tran Van Thuan, the programme is designed to encourage the participation of young doctors in community activities, increase the association’s role and prestige among youth and society, and contribute to caring for and improving people’s health.
This is the first event of a campaign launched by the Ministry of Health, Politics General Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, Vietnam Red Cross Society and the VYDA with the aim to offer free health check-ups and treatment for 1 million Vietnamese people.
