Dengue fever is one of the most dangerous mosquito-transmitted diseases. The World Health Organisation estimates that 2.5 billion people suffer from it around the globe with 70 of them are living in Asia-Pacific
In Dong Nai alone, 632 dengue cases and 1,505 hand-foot-mouth disease(HFMD) cases have been reported so far this year.
The province is one of the six localities in the Southern region that have the highest number of dengue cases.
On this occasion, the Health Department launched the program on hand-washing with soap in order to prevent hand-foot-mouth disease while 37 cars ran on some main roads in Bien Hoa city to call on people to join hands in the fight against the diseases.
ASEAN and its 10 member countries and the World Health Organisation (WHO) named June 15 as the ASEAN Dengue Day, with the aim of raising public awareness and strengthening coordination among countries in the prevention and fight against the disease.
