(ĐN)- Dong Nai’s health sector is continuing to keep a close eye on measles that is currently developing in 61 out of 63 localities.

More than 8,500 measles cases were reported nationwide until April 20. 111 deaths have been caused by complications arising from measles. In total, 25 were killed directly by the disease, most of them under the age of 10 who had not been vaccinated.

In Dong Nai province, some 350 cases have been diagnosed with the disease, 35 of them have tested positive to measles and some have serious complications.

Director Cao Trong Nguong of  Dong Nai Preventive Medicine Centre stresses the importance of vaccination as the most effective preventive measure against measles.

Accordingly, the province will continue vaccination campaigns against measles to make sure that 95 percent of total children are safe from the disease.

Also, more efforts are being made to raise awareness among the public, especially at the commune and ward levels.
