More than 10,000 pinkeye cases reported

(ĐN)- More than 10,000 cases of pinkeye have been recorded in Dong Nai province since early September, up 380% compared to the same period last year, according to the latest report by the provincial Health Department.

The province’s hospitals now receives more than 30 pinkeye cases every day, accounting for 90 percent of the total number of patients with eye problems

Localities suffering the most from pinkeye are Bien Hoa, Long Khanh, Vinh Cuu and Trang Bom.

Pinkeye, also called conjunctivitis, is redness and inflammation of the clear membranes covering the whites of the eyes and the membranes on the inner part of the eyelids. Pinkeye is most often caused by a virus or by a bacterial infection, although allergies, chemical agents, and underlying diseases can also play a role.
