The southern regions of Vietnam reported more than 77,000 cases of dengue fever in 2012, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.

This figure was released by the National Program for Dengue Prevention. Of the 77,000 dengue fever cases, 61 succumbed to the disease. Last week saw a fall in the number of cases though one more death was reported.

However, the ratio still remains very high in some southern provinces. Ho Chi Minh City leads with 257 cases, followed by Dong Nai and Soc Trang provinces.

Accordingly, medical experts have warned of another outbreak at any time and to adopt urgent measures to prevent the disease from spreading again.
