Doctors in  Dong Nai province on Tuesday successfully removed a 15-centimeter long metal rod from a 42-year-old man’s throat, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Nguyen Ngoc Le had the motorbike rearview mirror holder removed after a 15-minute surgery, it said, quoting a doctor at the Dong Nai General Hospital who assisted with the surgery.

The holder was L-shaped, and its screws and rubber cover were intact.

The man is now recovering.

According to a hospital spokesperson, Le had been admitted earlier that day with shock and injures on his head besides the object in his throat.

His family said he was found in the street bleeding and with a swollen throat that morning, and was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to the Dong Nai General Hospital.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, his wife, told Tuoi Tre newspaper that someone must have rammed the rod into his throat.

The family has complained to the police.
