The family said Dang Thi Song, 24, was brought to Tam Hong Phuoc, private general hospital on Friday night and doctors said she needs a c-section as the position of the embryo could not allow a push delivery.
But the baby died seconds after the surgery, while Song passed out, her breath and heartbeat stopped and she was rushed to Dong Nai general hospital, where doctors said she had died.
Nguyen The Thu, Director of Tam Hong Phuoc hospital, admitted that Song had showed signs of shock and stopped breathing a short while after she was given anesthetics for the surgery.
But doctors still continued as they found the baby’s heart still beating and intended to save the child.
Thu said before the surgery, all tests found the woman and her child normal.
Local health inspectors have taken samples of the anesthetics for checking.
The province Health Department said police would inform them the test results after seven or ten days and they will have a special team to decide who is to blame.
Unofficial statistics from health authorities nationwide listed more than 20 maternal complications in the past five months, which killed either the mothers, their babies, or both.
Some doctors were suspended, and families compensated, but the solutions have stopped at that.
The Health Ministry allowed that maternal complications remain a challenge to Vietnamese medical staff.
