There have been 60,000 dengue cases so far in 2012 and total fatalities stood at 47, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to Deputy head of General Department of Preventive Medicine Tran Thanh Duong, the disease outbreak was recorded in southern provinces where many lakes and ponds are concentrated and there is high rainfall, creating breeding grounds for the mosquitos which carry the disease.
Dong Nai province reported 5,800 cases in the past two weeks, of which 60 per cent were children.
Meanwhile Khanh Hoa Province has seen about 80 new cases each week, bringing the total number of patients in the province to 2,700. Ninh Hoa township and Nha Trang City account for half of these cases.
