Dong Nai province announced on July 3 that blue-ear pig disease has been detected in Banh An village, Long Thanh district.

The disease had been found earlier in Vinh Cuu district.

The provincial Department of Animal Health said that 38 out of the 310 pigs infected with the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) virus in Long Thanh district have been destroyed. So far, the province has culled more than 1,100 sick pigs in the two districts.

The provincial veterinary sector has coordinated with local authorities to set up check-points to prevent the transport of sick pigs from the infected areas and, at the same time, isolate those areas where the disease has been confirmed. They have also taken measures to control the trade and transport of pigs in order to prevent the spread of the disease.

With more than 1.2 million pigs, Dong Nai province is the country’s leading pork supplier.
