Vietnam has recorded nearly 62,000 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease in 61 localities, including 114 deaths in 24 cities and provinces, according to the Ministry of Health’s Department of Preventive Medicine.
In the last week alone, more 2,100 cases of the disease were confirmed in 51 cities and provinces, among them, two deaths in Kien Giang and Ca Mau provinces.
The spread of the disease in the future is difficult to predict. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training have agreed on an action plan to fight the spread of hand-foot-mouth disease in schools during the 2011-2012 academic year.
The plan aims to educate at least 80 percent of teachers and parents about hand-foot-mouth disease and the importance of personal hygiene in preventing the spread of the disease.
