The Provincial Steering Committee on disease prevention and control has asked localities to focus on raising public awareness of the disease as well as encouraging sanitation work to control and prevent the disease from spreading throughout the province.
From now until August 30, 2011, the province will intensify the sterilization of kindergartens and provide Chloramine B for 150,000 families with children under age six to prevent the spread of the disease.
By August 22, the Provincial Preventive Medicine Centre confirmed over 4,100 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease with 17 fatal instances.
