(ĐN)- Dengue fever outbreaks are increasingly in Dong Nai province.

Mosquitoes are the main cause of the disease, which can lead to respiratory and digestive problems, and even death. The weather pattern of high temperatures and humidity provides better conditions for mosquitoes, which spread dengue fever. The disease is unpredictable and can arise during any season.

Children aged 5-15 years are particularly at risk of contracting the diseases. Dong Nai Paediatrics Hospital reported 851 children were admitted to the hospital with dengue fever and 81 of them were hospitalised in serious condtions since early this year.

The province is also seeing a sharp rise in the number of adult patients with the disease and children over the age of 15 currently account for nearly 40 percent of the total cases recorded in the province.

A total of 1,281 cases with five deaths have been reported across Dong Nai province since the beginning of this year, an increase of 132 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Provincial Preventive Medicine Centre. In June alone, 339 cases of the disease were reported in the province, up 44 cases compared to the previous month, a 76 percent increase year-on-year.

Bien Hoa city saw the highest number of cases with 397, followed by Long Thanh district with 165 and Xuan Loc district with 134.

Dong Nai is the second-hardest-hit locality in the southern region.
