The ‘Building Cultural Families’ program is one of the key initiatives of the ‘All People Unite to Build a Cultural Life’ Movement.

In Dong Nai, building cultural families goes beyond mere evaluation and recognition of the title; it has become a way of life, fostering bonding, love, and mutual support among family members.

Families and local communities join hands

The family of Hoang Thi Huyen (residing in Hamlet 8, Thanh Son Commune, Dong Nai Province) has maintained the title of ‘Cultural Family’ for many consecutive years. Not only does the family diligently comply with the Party’s directives and the State’s laws and policies, but they are also respected by local residents for their active participation in social activities within the hamlet and commune. In particular, Huyen’s family has taken the lead in mobilizing the community to maintain public order, prevent domestic violence, eliminate social vices, and build a new cultural lifestyle among ethnic minority communities. In 2024, the family was honored by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as an Exemplary Cultural Family.

Huyen shared: ‘The title of Cultural Family is a motivation for each member of our household to live better each day. I always remind my children and grandchildren to live harmoniously, respect their elders, love and share with one another, and actively participate in local initiatives. I believe that when every family is conscious of cultivating a cultural lifestyle, the community will become more civilized and neighborhood ties will grow stronger.”

According to the Steering Committee for the ‘All People Unite to Build a Cultural Life’ movement in Thanh Son Commune, over the years, the commune’s hamlets have effectively conducted awareness campaigns, disseminated criteria, and implemented evaluation and recognition of the Cultural Family title in a transparent, democratic, and rigorous manner. While in 2001, the proportion of Cultural Families in the commune was just over 80%, the figure reached 99.2% by the end of 2024. Models and clubs building happy families and preventing and controlling domestic violence have been maintained and expanded. Residents have strictly adhered to developing civilized practices in weddings, funerals, and festivals.

In Dong Phu Commune, during its 25-year implementation of ‘Building Cultural Families’ Program, local authorities have continuously innovated and improved the quality of family work, considering it a core priority. Each year, the commune organizes registration, evaluation, and recognition of the Cultural Family title in accordance with regulations, while also developing numerous exemplary models such as ‘Exemplary Grandparents and Parents, Filial Children,’ ‘5 No’s, 3 Cleans’ families, and ‘Healthy Children, Well-Educated Children’ families. As a result, annually, over 96% of households in Dong Phu Commune have been awarded the Cultural Family title, and all 20 hamlets have achieved the title of Cultural Residential Area.

Raising awareness and creating a ripple effect in the community

The Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Dong Nai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Le Thi Ngoc Loan, stated that the ‘Building Cultural Families’ campaign is grounded in the traditional values of Vietnamese families. Each individual and family plays a role in preserving and nurturing the nation’s cultural identity. This forms the ‘root’ for cultivating proper thinking, ethics, and lifestyle, serving as a ‘shield’ against the negative impacts of social vices and the downsides of market mechanisms.

She also added: ‘Dong Nai is one of the first provinces in the country to develop software for collecting family-related data, facilitating rapid storage of information and reporting based on data analysis from the grassroots level. This allows agencies and localities to accurately identify specific areas and target groups for more effective awareness campaigns.

Currently, the province has nearly 2,000 family clubs with around 20,000 members. Local club activities integrate content on preventing domestic violence, promoting economic development, raising well-behaved children, mediating conflicts, providing counseling, and intervening promptly to reduce domestic violence incidents within the community.

In particular, in recent times, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has continuously innovated its approach to family and domestic violence prevention campaigns. In addition to strengthening visual promotions and mobile propaganda, the department annually organizes the ‘Honoring Exemplary Cultural Families’ program; collaborates with Dong Nai Newspaper and Radio, Television to produce special pages, segments, talk shows, and entertainment games focused on family issues, attracting the participation of many young families and family clubs, and domestic violence prevention and control clubs. Furthermore, the department maintains a ‘Family Advice Corner’ on its website, operating 24/7.

“Continuing to promote the building of cultural families across the province not only strengthens intergenerational bonds but also helps residents recognize the importance of the family for each individual and for the development of society as a whole. When people enhance their awareness of happy families, the foundation of a happy society, they will become active agents in fostering civilized lifestyles, contributing to building and promoting Dong Nai’s cultural values and people, serving as an essential resource and driver for its comprehensive and sustainable development,” affirmed Le Thi Ngoc Loan.
