A special resource for Dong Nai’s sustainable development

With a natural area of more than 12,700 square kilometers, Dong Nai possesses the largest land reserve in the Southeast region. This feature is not only an advantage in terms of geographical scale but also a particularly important resource that serves as a strategic foundation, as well as a condition and driving force for the province to expand its development space comprehensively and sustainably.

Land is a finite resource, intrinsically tied to all socio-economic activities. Possessing a large and diverse land fund forms the foundation for the province to establish and expand industrial zones, develop modern urban centers, designate specialized areas for high-tech agriculture, and allocate forest land in a balanced manner, to both unlock economic value and maintain ecological sustainability. This feature is a critical pillar in ensuring long-term, sustainable development.

For example, in agriculture, it is uncommon for a leading industrial province to still possess over 1 million hectares of agricultural land, a rare advantage. From this land fund, the province can designate specialized crop cultivation zones, concentrated livestock areas, and apply high-tech solutions integrated with deep processing. This undertaking not only enhances the value of agricultural products and strengthens the province’s position as a “hub” for key sectors such as livestock, cashew, and rubber, but also opens up prospects for Dong Nai to become a major agricultural export center for the southern region and the country as a whole.

The province’s current non-agricultural land reserve basically meets the demand for modern urban, infrastructure, and service development. Strategic infrastructure systems such as Long Thanh International Airport, Phuoc An Port, Hoa Lu International Border Gate, and the inter-regional expressway network, which are being invested in and developed, will further increase land value, creating momentum for the province to make breakthroughs, become a new growth pole, and play a connecting role for the entire region, the nation, and international markets.

Currently, the province is implementing adjustments to its Master Plan (2021–2030, vision to 2050), including the restructuring of land use categories. This undertaking is an inevitable step following the merger of the former Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces, and also an urgent requirement to redefine development space and allocate resources rationally. The 1st Provincial Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term has clearly set the goal that by 2030, Dong Nai will have basically met the criteria of a centrally governed city, with land serving as an indispensable special resource to realize this aspiration.

When properly planned and used in a thrifty and efficient manner, land resources will serve as a solid foundation for Dong Nai to achieve balanced development across industry, urban areas, agriculture, and services, while also preserving the ecological environment and adapting to climate change. This advantage is a vital driving force that enables the province to accelerate its growth, affirm its role as one of the country’s leading growth poles, and steadily realize the goal of sustainable development in the new period.
