Dong Nai currently has a total pig herd of nearly 4.2 million, with 92% raised on farms. The province’s poultry population stands at about 36.5 million, including nearly 32.9 million chickens, of which 84% are farm-raised. Waterfowl account for more than 3.6 million.

The local livestock sector has adopted many advanced technologies, such as enclosed barns and automated feeding systems, while disease prevention and control efforts have been effectively implemented.
Moreover, Dong Nai has attracted significant investment in animal feed production, livestock breeding, and veterinary pharmaceuticals. These sectors not only meet local demand but also supply other provinces and cities across the country. The province has also developed safe livestock product supply chains, which are well-received in domestic markets and are increasingly participating in export markets.
Looking ahead to the 2026–2030 period, Dong Nai aims to develop a modern, industrialized, and sustainable livestock industry that enhances its competitiveness. Commercial livestock products will primarily be produced in concentrated farming facilities that meet biosecurity and disease safety standards, are environmentally friendly, and uphold animal welfare practices. These facilities will also meet domestic and international food safety requirements. The province plans to establish and complete closed value chains in pig and chicken farming, from production and processing to consumption and export.
Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hoang emphasized that Dong Nai will continue to serve as the country’s leading hub for pig and chicken farming following the provincial merger. The province’s strategic direction is to develop large-scale, industrial livestock production with strict disease control, food safety, and organic farming, supported by closed-loop supply chains. During the 2026–2030 period, Dong Nai targets an annual livestock production value growth rate of 4–5%. By 2030, the province aims to raise its pig herd to around 5 million, poultry to 48 million, and egg production to 2 billion units annually.
The provincial leadership has requested the DoAE to review and update livestock development plans based on existing planning frameworks. This includes identifying priority areas for livestock investment and calculating the economic efficiency per hectare of livestock farm development to better guide future investments.
