National Individual Badminton Championship 2025 opens in Dong Nai

More than 150 athletes from 17 provinces, cities, and sectors are competing in the 2025 National Individual Badminton Championship, which is underway between August 10 to 16 at the Dong Nai Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center stadium.

On the evening of August 10, at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center stadium, the Dong Nai Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Sports Authority of Vietnam, co-organized the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Individual Badminton Championship - Yonex-Sunrise Cup. This is the third time Dong Nai has hosted the National Individual Badminton Championship, following previous events in 2017 and 2019.

Speaking at the ceremony, Member of Provincial Party Committee, Director of Dong Nai Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan stated: The 2025 National Individual Badminton Championship is the most important tournament in the national badminton system, with the participation of excellent athletes, especially international-level athletes such as Nguyen Thuy Linh (Dong Nai team), Le Duc Phat (Army team), and Nguyen Hai Dang (Ho Chi Minh City team). The tournament is also an opportunity for athletes to exchange and improve their professional skills, contributing to elevating Vietnamese Badminton to new heights. At the same time, it is an opportunity for Dong Nai province to promote its image, people, and potential, as well as its socio-economic development advantages in a new space, new opportunities towards a new era, "the era of the nation's rise."

The tournament brought together 154 male and female athletes from 17 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide, including: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Army, Bac Ninh, Dien Bien, Dong Thap, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, Lam Dong, Hue City, Tay Ninh, Tuyen Quang, and the host Dong Nai.

The athletes compete in 5 categories: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Notably, the host Dong Nai hopes that Nguyen Thuy Linh will defend her women's individual championship title, won in 2024.

This year's tournament promises to be exciting with the participation of top Vietnamese athletes such as: Nguyen Tien Minh, Le Duc Phat (men's singles), Nguyen Thuy Linh, Tran Thi Phuong Thuy, Vu Thi Trang (women's singles), Tran Dinh Manh, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, Pham Van Hai, Than Van Anh, Pham Thi Khanh, Pham Thi Dieu Ly, Nguyen Tien Tuan (doubles)...

After the opening ceremony, the athletes began competing in Round 1 in 3 categories: mixed doubles, men's singles, and women's doubles.

The finals will take place on the morning of August 16.
