(ĐN) - Cyclist Tran Trong Phuc excellently won the first gold medal for Dong Nai in the men’s U23 points race at the 2025 National Youth Mountain Bike and Road Cycling Championships.

On the morning of August 18, at Hoa Binh Square, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho Province, in coordination with the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the Vietnam Cycling Federation, held the opening ceremony of the 30th National Youth Mountain Bike and Road Cycling Championships. The event is one of the activities marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, National Day on September 2, and in preparation for the 14th National Party Congress.
The 2025 National Youth Road and Mountain Bike Championships brought together nearly 500 participants, including 320 young cyclists from 15 teams representing provinces, cities, and sectors across the country, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, Dong Nai, Thanh Hoa, Son La, Lao Cai, and the Army, among others.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, the first road cycling events officially began. In the men’s U23 27km points race, Dong Nai’s cyclist Tran Trong Phuc delivered an outstanding performance, finishing ahead of Pham Le Xuan Loc (Army) and Nguyen Phuoc Thanh (An Giang) to claim victory and secure the first gold medal for Dong Nai cycling. Two other Dong Nai cyclists, Nguyen Van Nha and Nguyen Van Hieu, placed fourth and eleventh, respectively.
In the women’s U23 21km points race, athletes from Ho Chi Minh City teams 1 and 2 secured the top four positions. Lam Thi Thuy Duong and Truong Thi Mai Huong (HCMC 1) won the gold and silver medals, while Tran Thi Thuy Van (HCMC 2) took bronze. In the women’s 17–18 age group 16.8km points race, Ho Thi Yen Linh (Vinh Long) claimed the gold medal. Ly Bao Quynh (HCMC 2) and Loi Ngoc Quynh (HCMC 1) earned silver and bronze, respectively.
In the afternoon, cyclists continued to compete in several events, including the 15km points race for girls under 16, the 21km points race for boys under 16, and the 24km points race for boys aged 17–18.
According to the schedule, the championship is taking place from August 18 to 28. Road cycling events run from August 18 to 24, followed by mountain biking events from August 25 to 28.
