(ĐN)- Vietnam's No. 1 female player Nguyen Thuy Linh overcame Hungarian player Vivien Sandorhazi, who is 59 ranks lower, in the first round of the women's singles event at the 2025 Canada Open Badminton Championship.

On July 3, Linh began her campaign in the women's singles event at the 2025 Canada Open Badminton Championship (Super 300). This tournament is part of the World Tour Super 300 system of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) with a total prize money of 240,000 USD (approximately 6 billion VND).

At this year's tournament, Nguyen Thuy Linh (world No. 22) was seeded No. 2 in the women's singles event, while the No. 1 seed was home player Michelle Li (world No. 19).

In the first match held this morning, Nguyen Thuy Linh dominated against player Vivien Sandorhazi (Hungary, world No. 81) and won with a score of 2-0 (21/12, 21/14) after 34 minutes of competition, securing her spot in the round of 16.

Nguyễn Thuy Linh's opponent in the round of 16 of the women's singles event at the Canada Open Badminton Championship will be Chen Su Yu (Chinese Taipei, world No. 91). In the first round, Chen caused a surprise by defeating home representative Rachel Chan with a score of 2-1.

Two other Vietnamese badminton representatives also competed in the men's singles event at the Canada Open early this morning: Lê Đức Phát (world No. 62) and Nguyen Hai Dang (world No. 67). Notably, these two players were forced to "fight each other" to advance to the second round. As a result, Hai Dang won decisively 2-0 (21-12, 21-7) and will face Japan's No. 1 player, world No. 7 Kodai Naraoka, in the round of 16.
