The two players to be cut from Vietnam’s U23 team are Tran Van Cong and Nguyen Minh Hieu.

More than half of the team are key players from the squad that won goal medal at the recently-concluded 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) hosted by Vietnam.

They include goalkeeper Nguyen Van Toan, defenders Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Le Van Do, midfielders Huynh Cong Den and Ly Cong Hoang Anh, and striker Nham Manh Dung.

Vietnam’s U23s arrived in Uzbekistan on May 29 after taking part in a short training camp in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

During their stay there they lost 0-3 to the UAE in a friendly match. The fixture saw the Vietnamese U23 side play in a 4-3-3 formation, a stark contrast from the style under the head coach Park Hang-seo.

In the AFC U23 Asian Championship finals, Vietnam have been drawn in Group C along with the Republic of Korea (RoK), Thailand, and Malaysia. The team will play their opening match against Thailand on June 2, before facing the RoK on June 5, and Malaysia on June 8.
