The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently announced a new schedule for the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), with the nation set to host the regional competition next year.

The regional event will get underway in Hanoi and 11 other northern provinces from May 5 to May 23, 2022, with the occasion marking the second time that the country will have hosted the games since 2003.

The SEA Games 31 will feature a total of 40 sports and is expected to welcome 10,000 participants.

Furthermore, the opening and closing ceremonies will take place at the My Dinh National Stadium in the capital on May 12 and May 23, respectively.

Most notably, the men’s football event will be held from May 6 to May 22, while the women’s football is set to take place from May 11 to May 21. Other sports include track-and-field, basketball, vovinam, and volleyball, all of which have fixed dates, with medals being awarded to the winners.

The organisers have set the target of completing all preparations for the SEA Games in April next year, including trialing the competition venues so they are ready for the games.

The 2021 SEA Games was originally scheduled to be held from November 21 to December 2, although due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was postponed until May 12 and May 23, 2022.
