The Vietnamese Paralympic team is scheduled to arrive at Narita International Airport in Japan on the morning of August 20 and will then begin their journey at the Tokyo games.

According to the team’s organisers, the national delegation will receive support from two Vietnamese volunteers currently residing in Japan, including Ta Thi Quynh Lien, who assisted the Vietnamese sports team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games will take place 6 p.m. on August 24 (local time). Each sporting delegation will send two athletes and one coach to the event.

The Paralympics will last until September 5, with the participation of thousands of athletes worldwide. In total, 540 events across 22 different sports will be held during the course of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Seven Vietnamese athletes who will compete in categories such as weightlifting, swimming, and track-and-field.

At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, weightlifter Le Van Cong became the first Vietnamese athlete to win a gold medal in the competition.
