The Vietnamese men’s football team enjoyed a resounding 6-0 victory over their rivals Brunei in their opening match of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Group B at the Binan Stadium in Laguna, the Philippines, on November 25.
Striker Ha Duc Chinh proved to be the team’s star man after finishing the game with a four-goal haul. The SHB Da Nang forward opened the scoring in the 10th minute after heading a cross from Thai Quy into the opposition’s net.
Duc Chinh doubled the lead in the 23rd minute after latching on to a wonderful pass from midfielder Thanh Thinh.
At half-time Vietnam enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 lead. It didn’t take Vietnam long into the second half to get back on the scoreboard, with Duc Chinh completing his hat-trick in the 48th minute.
Midfielder Viet Hung then put the national team 4-0 up with an effort in the 60th minute.
Duc Chinh helped himself to another goal in the 66th minute before being substituted for Tien Linh.
Following several unsuccessful attempts at goal, Trong Hung finally popped up with the team’s sixth goal in the 83rd minute.
Vietnam’s U22 side have been drawn in Group B alongside Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Laos, and Indonesia.
The upcoming fixtures of Vietnam’s U22 side includes group games against Laos, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on November 28, December 1, December 3, and December 5, respectively.
