The National Junior Athletics Championships began on August 2 morning in Dong Nai Province.

 

The National Junior Athletics Championships began on August 2 morning in Dong Nai Province.

Athletes will compete in 47 events, of which 23 are for men and women each and a mixed event of 4x400m, at the Dong Nai Stadium in Bien Hoa City.

The first gold medal of the tournament went to Lieu Thi Hong Phuong of Bac Lieu Province. The 17-year-old topped the women's shot-put event with a score of 12.46m.

Phuong in March won a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships in the Philippines.

She was followed by Huynh Ngoc My of HCM City (11.83m) and Lam Thi Hong Cam from Soc Trang (11.74m).

The championship will end on August 6.
