Held by the Nhi Dong (Children) Newspaper with support from the Vietnam Football Federation, the tournament offers an opportunity for young players to exchange and improve their soccer skills and helps coaches to scout young talents to foster for the national teams.
The finals of this year’s tournament see the participation of teams including Quang Ngai, Thanh Khiet District 8 of Ho Chi Minh City, defending champions Song Lam Nghe An and hosts Dak Lak in Group A. Group B features PVF, Hai An Tay Ninh, Thanh Hoa and Hanoi. Group C includes Ho Chi Minh City, SHB Da Nang, Phu Yen and Thai Nguyen, while Group D gathers Hung Yen, Binh Dinh, Van Tam Dong Nai and Tuyen Quang.
Teams compete in a round-robin format to determine the top two teams in each group to progress to the knock-out phase.
After the opening ceremony, the opening match saw hosts Dak Lak play defending champions Song Lam Nghe An. The better side easily beat underdogs Dak Lak U11s 3-0. Previously, Phu Yen beat Ho Chi Minh City 1-0, while Tuyen Quang drew 2-2 with Binh Dinh.
The tournament will take place until August 2.
