7th Ong Pagoda Festival opens

(ĐN)- The 7th Ong Pagoda Festival was opened last night with the attendance of Chairman Huynh Van Toi of Dong Nai Fatherland Front Committee, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Hoa Hiep of the provincial People's Committee, representatives of departments, sectors, along with a large number of visitors.

 

(ĐN)- The 7th Ong Pagoda Festival was opened last night with the attendance of Chairman Huynh Van Toi of Dong Nai Fatherland Front Committee, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Hoa Hiep of the provincial People's Committee, representatives of departments, sectors, along with a large number of visitors.

At the opening ceremony, organizers launched a fundraising drive to help local poor people. The donated money will be handed over to funds for the poor of Bien Hoa city and Hiep Hoa commune to support the poor.

During the event, many activities will be held, such as marching on some streets, unicorn-lion-dragon dance, traditional music performance, calligraphy performance, etc.

The festival aims to contemplate and worship, recall ancestors, and pray for safety and prosperity for the country and people.

Ong Pagoda is located at Hiep Hoa commune, Bien Hoa city. It was built in 1684 by the Chinese Community in Cu Lao Pho (Pho isle). At first, it was named Quan De Pagoda, and later renamed That Phu Co Temple (or Ong Pagoda). In 2001, Ong Pagoda was listed as national cultural heritage.
