Addressing at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Hoa Hiep of the provincial People’s Committee, who is also Head of the Steering Committee for the 8th provincial Games, highly praised the local sports achievements over the past time. The province’s sports have become more and more developed, he added.

She also stressed that the event is the largest sporting event in the province, aiming to promote the movements of playing sports among local people as well as to continue conducting the campaign of following Ho Chi Minh’s good physical training habit.

The opening ceremony attracted the participation of more than 20,000 participants including students, cadres, and workers from departments, sectors, organizations, schools and companies across the province.

The ceremony began with a parade to show off the forces of units representing 11 districts, provincial town, city, departments and sectors in the province.

Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Nguyen Phu Cuong received a traditional torch, which was carried from Tran Bien Temple through main roads of Bien Hoa City to the host stadium, to light up torch estrade at the festival. The torch will light during competitive days at the festival.

Ending the opening ceremony was the grand performance by 1,000 athletes from HCM city's University of Sports and Physical Training along with many local artists and students.

The festival attracts thousands of athletes, competing in 21 games. It offers a chance to select the best athletes for the upcoming 8th National Games scheduled to be held on November 25.

The closing ceremony of the festival is scheduled to take place in November this year.
