The award, worth US$5,000, will be presented to him in the Republic of Korea this September.

Mr Thieu, who has bagged several domestic literary awards, says the international award broadens the audience for his poetry to other countries. This is also a good chance for the two countries to promote literature exchanges.

Mr Thieu is the Vice chairman of the Vietnamese Writers Association. He is one of the first people to have brought Korean literature to Vietnam with the introduction of five Korean authors.

The Changwon KC International Literary Prize has been presented to world famous writers and poets such as Christopher Merrill and Tracy K Smith of the US, Bei Dao of China and Claude Mouchard of France.
