The team features six popular names in Vietnamese shooting, including Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh, Tran Quoc Cuong, Ha Minh Thanh, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Le Thi Hoang Ngoc and Pham Thi Ha.
Vietnamese athletes are to vie for medals in eight events, namely the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol, 10m air rifle, 50m rifle 3 positions, 10m air pistol, 50m slow fire pistol and 50m rifle prone categories and the women’s 10m air pistol and 25m sport pistol disciplines.
At last year’s World Cup competition in Bangkok, Thailand, the Vietnamese team brought home two bronze medals thanks to Hoang Xuan Vinh in the men’s 10m air pistol and Ha Minh Thanh in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event.
The New Delhi World Cup will also be the first international tournament for top Vietnamese marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh since he made history with one gold and one silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Notably in New Delhi, Vinh will have the chance to compete against young Brazilian shooter Felipe Almeida Wu, who finished runner-up, behind Vinh, in the men’s 10m air pistol finals in Rio last year.
