A concert introducing a scholarship in the name of late musician Bac Son was held by his family at the Cong Nhan (Worker) Theater in Ho Chi Minh City on October 27.
The musician’s family handed over 30 scholarships worth VND2 million (US$ 89) of each to encourage students who are children of disadvantaged artists and theater workers in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Dong Nai and Long An.
On the occasion, Viet Wax Figure Company presented to the public a wax figure of musician Bac Son.
The statue will be displayed in an exhibition of 100 wax sculptures of famous artists who have outstanding contribution to art and culture in decades. The show is expected to be held at Hoa Binh Theater in the city in December.
After the concert, musician Bac Son’s relatives will continue to offer scholarships to children of poor workers and teachers as well as launching books and films on the musicians in schools and industrial zones.
Musician Bac Son whose real name is Truong Van Khue was born in 1932 in Dong Nai province and passed away in 2005.
He wrote more than 500 songs composed in the style of traditional music, such as Con Thuong Rau Dang Moc Sau He (Still Loving Bitter Vegetables behind the House), Em Di Tren Co Non (You Walk on Young Grass) and Sa Mua Giong (Stormy Rain Falling).
Musician Bac Son is a Southern man. Most of his works have images of peaceful countryside, with rivers, boats, bamboo and thatched roofs.
He also owned nearly 100 scripts and released five music storybooks.He was honored with the title “Meritorious Artist” in 1997.
