World U8 champion Nguyen Le Cam Hien earned a silver medal at the National Youth Chess Championship’s girls’ U9 category on Sunday in Da Nang.
Hien, from Quang Ninh Province, grabbed 7.5 points and came in second in the standard chess event.
Thai Ngoc Tuong Minh of Dong Nai won a gold medal with 8.5 points.
Earlier, Hien claimed a bronze medal in rapid chess and finished sixth in the blitz event.
In other standard categories, Vương Trung Hiếu topped the boys’ U20; Nguyen Hoang Anh won the girls’ U20; Phùng Thị Quynh Trang triumphed in the girls’ U17, and Le Minh Hoang claimed the boys’ U17.
