Hoang Anh Gia Lai (blue) step one foot out of the relegation zone. |
1. FLC Thanh Hoa suffer a shocking defeat, Binh Duong crowned V-League champion two rounds ahead
Football fans were dealt a big surprise when FLC Thanh Hoa took the lead at two goals ahead against QNK Quang Nam after 21 minutes thanks to Omar’s double. However, Patiyo’s goal, in addition to a double by Dinh Thanh Trung from a free kick, and then Phan Thanh Hung’s goal, set the game at 4-3 Quang Nam in favour. With the sudden fall of Thanh Hoa, the goalless draw between Becamex Binh Duong and Hai Phong was enough for Binh Duong to defend their championship title with only two rounds to go of the V-League competition. Binh Duong is six points above Thanh Hoa, while the team is in favour in the sub-indexes (drawing 1-1 in the first leg, winning 5-2 in the second leg).
2. Hoang Anh Gia Lai escape from relegation
Hanoi T&T made a great start with a 2-0 lead in the first half at Pleiku Stadium against hosts Hoang Anh Gia Lai, thanks to Samson and Ngoc Duy. It seemed that the Hanoi team would have an easy win, but suddenly Gia Lai stepped up their efforts scoring consecutive goals in 27 minutes of the second half, making it the most notable come-from-behind win of the tournament. With their 3rd consecutive victory, Gia Lai seem to be out of a dangerous position for relegation. Gia Lai only need one point in the last two games to surely stay in the league next year.
3. Round with the largest number of goals in this year’s season
Round 24 recorded thirty-four goals in seven matches, an average of 4.86 goals a match. It is the highest of the season and also among five rounds with the largest number of goals in the history of the V-League competition. More specifically, there are six matches with more than three goals each. The victory with the biggest scoring belonged to Quang Nam Coal as the team beat hosts Khanh Hoa 5-0. The match proved a struggle for Khanh Hoa as midfielder Hai Huy received a red card and coach Nhu Thuan was disqualified.
4. Van Thang breaks Cong Vinh's record
With a double against Dong Tam Long An, Van Thang has bagged 16 goals to break the record of Cong Vinh, who previously held the record of a Vietnamese (excluding naturalised players) player scoring the most goals in a season. In 2009, playing for Hanoi T&T, Cong Vinh scored 14 goals and became the record domestic top scorer in V-League history. However, the record has now been broken with an additional two goals by Van Thang. In the last two remaining rounds, the Thanh Hoa born striker can still improve his record.
5. Round of domestic players
Twenty-four out of 34 goals in this round were recorded by domestic players and the only hat-trick was set by Nghiem Xuan Tu – a testament to the tournament in which domestic player play a key role. In addition, Van Thang and Dinh Thanh Trung scored twice each. It seems that V-League 2015 is becoming the true playground of local players.
