The participants are competing for 48 sets of medals, 24 for men and 24 for women.
The tournament is expected to help the Department of Athletics under the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF) evaluate the outcomes of young athlete training.
The event will also help select outstanding athletes for the national team in preparation in preparation for the 2016 Asian Youth Athletics Championships to be held in Vietnam in June, 2016.
