Vu Quoc Su, 56, from Long Khanh Town is known both at home and abroad. Called a ‘farmer painter’, Su did not study art at school.
"Once I dismantled the bamboo roof of my kitchen, I saw soot-blackened bamboo sticks, with unique shapes created by accident. Suddenly I thought of drawing paintings on smoked bamboo," he said.
He chose old and straight bamboo to split into pieces, combined them into boards and smoked them for two to three months.
He used a sharp needle, a small stone blade, and a grinding stone to create the unusual paintings.
