Dong Nai wins B prize at Southern Don Ca Tai Tu festival

(ĐN)- The 21st Southern "Don ca tai tu" festival concluded late on March 7 in Long An province's Can Duoc district.

 

(ĐN)- The 21st Southern “Don ca tai tu” festival concluded late on March 7 in Long An province’s Can Duoc district.

At the closing ceremony, the organizers awarded two A prizes to troupes from Long An province’s Can Duoc district and HCM city. Meanwhile, Don Ca Tai Tu troupes from Dong Nai, Long An province’s Tan An district, Tien Giang and Ben Tre won the B prizes.

The two-day festival brought together 10 “Don ca tai tu” troupes from southern provinces and cities. It aims to keep the traditional southern amateur music alive and develop a love of this particular kind of music amongst the people.

The festival is part of activities to commemorate the late famous artisan Nguyen Quang Dai, who made great contributions to passing down the special art to younger generations.

“Don ca tai tu”, a musical art in southern Vietnam, known as a musical art that has both scholarly and folk roots, “it developed in southern Vietnam in the late 19th century.

It has been transmitted from generation to generation through official and unofficial forms of education. “Don ca tai tu” has continually been popularised through cultural exchanges among peoples.

The art form is played on a variety of different instruments including both traditional instruments such as ty ba (pear-shaped lute), tranh (16-string zither), bau (monochord), sao (bamboo flute), and the western instruments of violin and guitar.
