Thanh Tung clocked a final time of 35.40 seconds, 3.37 seconds faster than Japan’s Takayuki Suzuki and 3.74 seconds than Malaysia’s Jamery Anak Siga.
Earlier, Tung eclipsed the competition with a triple gold medal in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 (3:02.24), 50m backstroke S5 (46.62 sec) and 100m freestyle S5 (1:21.94) disciplines.
In addition to Tung’s success, Vietnam also won three additional bronze medals – one in athletics by Nguyen Thi Mai (women’s javelin throw – F37/38), and two in badminton by Pham Duc Trung (men’s singles SL3) and Tran Minh Nhuan – Pham Hong Tuan (men’s double SL 3,4/SU5).
As of 4pm today, Vietnam maintained its ninth position in the medal tally with seven gold, six silver and seven bronze medals. China remained on top with 119 gold, followed by RoK and Japan with 50 and 29 golds, respectively.
