Thanh Tung clocked a time of 1:2.94, 2.79 seconds faster than the Japanese silver medallist, Takayuki Suzuki and 9.48 seconds ahead of the third-place player from Thailand, KaewKhom Voravit.
It was Tung’s third personal gold medal won in this year’s Games, following the previous ones in the 200m freestyle S5 and 50m backstroke S5 disciplines.
Vo Huynh Anh Khoa added one more bronze to Vietnam’s medal tally after claiming third place in the men’s 400m freestyle S9 final on the same day. Khoa completed the race in 4:54.84, behind RoK’s Kwon Hyun (4:31.94) and Japanese Takuro Yamada (4:41.24).
As of 9pm today, Vietnam won a total of six gold, six silver and four bronze medals – mostly in powerlifting and swimming – and temporarily sat ninth in the medal count. China still safeguarded its domination with 95 gold medals, followed by RoK and Japan with 37 and 20 gold, respectively.
