The Vietnam karate team wrapped up its three-day campaign at the Asian Junior Championships on August 10, winning a total of one gold, two silver and six bronze medals, to claim sixth place overall.

Nguyen Thi Viet Trinh delivered the only gold medal for Vietnam, as she convincingly beat Japanese Kikuchi Mizuki 3-0 in the finals of the women’s over-59kg cadet kumite (combat) event.
The team’s two silvers went to Nguyen Thi Phuong in the women’s individual kata (demonstration) and Tran Pham Viet Thong in the men’s under-63kg kumite discipline.
The remaining six bronze medals were won by Hoang Hai Yen (women’s under-53 cadet kumite), Nguyen Thien Phuc (men’s under-53kg kumite), Dang Hong Son (men’s under-61kg kumite), Do Ha Mi (women’s under-21 kata), Tran Thi Khanh Vy (women’s under-53kg kumite) and Bui Thi Ngoc Han (women’s under-60kg kumite).
The Iranian karate team overwhelmed the overall podium with 13 gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
The annual tournament took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from August 8-10, featuring martial artists from around 40 countries and territories, including strong teams from Iran, Japan, and Kazakhstan. Vietnam sent 18 athletes to the event.
