The hosts went on the offensive early in the game and dominated throughout most of the first half.

Becamex Binh Duong had several chances to score the opener, but their attempts all failed to materialise into goals.

The second half saw Vicem Hai Phong regain the balance and organise a number of attacks against Becamex Binh Duong.

However the balance tipped in Binh Duong’s favour when Hai Phong was reduced to 10 men, with Le Van Phu being sent off for a foul on Suleiman in the 65th minute.

Only two minutes later, Binh Duong took the lead with the opener by Abass, who then extended the lead with a second goal from a stunning volley in the 82nd minute.

The same day, Thanh Hoa’s 3-0 victory over Dong Nai was not enough to help the team regain the top spot, despite having the same 29 points as Binh Duong, due to goal difference.

In another match, Hoang Anh Gia Lai exerted themselves to beat Quang Ninh Coal 3-2 to rise to the sixth position in the standings.
