Book Festival attracts nearly one million readers

(ĐN)- The 8th Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival closed yesterday at the Le Van Tam Park in District 1, attracting nearly one million book lovers.

(ĐN)- The 8th Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival closed yesterday at the Le Van Tam Park in District 1, attracting nearly one million book lovers.

The six-day festival reported a sales turnover of VND38 billion, increased 30% over the previous festival in 2012. The HCM City Book Distribution Corporation (FAHASA) recorded the highest turnover with VND12 billion.

During the festival, Dong Nai Publishing House displayed 500 book titles comprising many genres which had been published by the house since 2013. the house also presented readers 500 comic books and handed over 30 book titles to Border Guard High Command.

The biennial Ho Chi Minh City book festival is organised by the Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee, the Department of Information and Communications and Saigon Cultural Products Corporation, along with many publishing houses.

The fair is an iconic cultural event in the city. The event plays an important role in rebuilding and developing popularity of books in Vietnam.

The event also marks the 84th anniversary of the Vietnamese Communist Party, the 39th anniversary of the liberation of the South, the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory and the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army.
