A Vietnamese sporting delegation arrived in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar to compete in the 7th ASEAN Para Games, which officially kick off on January 14.

Myanmar has thoroughly prepared for the event and diligently strived to offer the best possible condition for the disabled athletes.

As one example of Myanmar’s preparedness, all members of participating delegations have been provided with free travel tickets and mobile cards during the Para Games.

Vu The Phiet, head of the Vietnamese sporting delegation said he applauds Myanmar’s preparation and welcome, but raised concern over a sudden last minute unanticipated change in the list of sports events that may affect the athletes performance.

Apart from securing a high place in the medal tally, Vietnam aims to take advantage of the occasion to strengthen friendship, solidarity and integration with other Southeast Asia nations.

Vietnamese swimmer Du Thi Lan, who clinched two gold medals at the previous Para Games in Indonesia, said she had two days of training before competing at the 7th Para Games. She has pinned high hopes for breaking the Games’ record in the butterfly swimming event.

Earlier on January 13, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai and Deputy Head of the General Department for Sports and Physical Training Pham Van Tuan, who is also Head of Vietnam Paralympic Association, flew to Nay Pyi Taw to encourage Vietnamese athletes to achieve the best results at the region’s largest sporting event for athletes with disabilities.
