    On the afternoon of December 16, swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc snatched a gold in the men’s 200m free style event. Nguyen Thi Anh Vien also broke the SEA Games record in the women’s 400m mixed event as she was clocked at 4'46''16, or two seconds faster than her runner-up.

    With seven gold medals on December 16 and two more gold on December 17, Vietnam is currently placed second, with 45 gold, 36 silver and 43 bronze medals. Thailand remains its top position with 59 gold medals, but the host Myanmar has dropped to third position with 39 gold medals.
