‘Introduction of Birds of Vietnam’ by Dr. Le Manh Hung published last year is among the few books presenting the many species of wild birds of Vietnam.

The book has 841 photographs of 532 species of birds including threatened species in the world. It is regarded as a full collection of more than 50 percent of wild bird species of Vietnam.

Photos were taken from the author’s trips across the country to places such as Fansipan Mountain Peak (Hoang Lien National Park, Sa Pa District, Lao Cai Province); Cuc Phuong National Park in Ninh Binh Province; Chu Yang Sin Mountain Peak (Chu Yang Sin National Park, Dak Lak Province); Con Dao National Park in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province; Cat Tien National Park;Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve in Dong Nai Province; and Ca Mau Bird Garden in Ca Mau Province, from 2006 to 2012.

Doctor Le Manh Hung, from Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, hopes the book not only updates and informs of species but also raises people’s awareness of the value and importance of wild animals and birds.

Bird watching tourism was launched nearly 20 years ago in Vietnam. Thousands of local and foreign tourists take part in tours to see and research bird species in the country. This book is a useful guidebook for researchers and bird-watchers.
