The biggest statue of King Tran Nhan Tong, considered the wisest king in the country’s history, was made from 4.5 tonnes of jade imported from Canada.
According to online newspaper, Vnexpress, the sculpture was completed on November 12 after more than 4 months’ work at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, HCM City. The giant jade statue is placed in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai Province.
The statue, as initiated by Buddhist followers, is adapted from a statue worshipped on the Yen Tu mountain, Quang Ninh Province. The statue, about 1.6meters high and weighing 2 tonnes, features Buddha Tran Nhan Tong sitting with a gold-inlaid face.
Together with sculpturing the statue, sculptors have restored a stamp of the Tran dynasty. The two best stamps will be presented to the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front and HCM City Committee of Fatherland Front for auction to raise more funds for the poor.
The jade statue will be showcased at Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi, to celebrate Vietnam Buddhist Congress from November 22nd to 24th.
Tran Nhan Tong, the Tran dynasty’ s third king, reigned for 15 years, and then became the king’s father for another 15 years. He founded the Truc Lam Zen sect.
