Manchester City Captain Vicent Kompany received a warm welcome from hundreds of Vietnamese fans after landing at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on June 7.

He said besides meeting orphans at the city’s SOS villages in Go Vap district and his supporters at the Youth Culture Center on June 8, he wants to learn more about Vietnam’s land and people and taste some special but unspicy dishes.

Kompany was impressed to see the streets fully packed by motorbike users.

When asked about the coming Euro 2012, the Belgian defender expressed his disappointment that Belgium could not take part in the tournament, but hoped that his team would join the World Cup 2014.

Although England has many famous players and an excellent coach, Spain is more likely to defend its championship title, he said.

He predicted that the host team Poland will defeat Greece in the opening match of the event.

The 26-year-old captain has been playing for the English Premier League for four years.

Kompany said that his most fearful rival is Arsenal attacker Van Persie and his idol is defender Marcel Desailly, who had helped France win the World Cup 1998 on their home turf.
