Vietnamese martial artists secured second place at a Muay Thai World Championship, which concluded in Bangkok on March 20.

Vietnamese martial artists secured second place at a Muay Thai World Championship, which concluded in Bangkok on March 20.

Vietnam won two gold, one silver and seven bronze medals at the tournament.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thang won a gold medal in the women’s 57kg category and Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat earned his in the men’s 60kg category, claiming the world championship for the third time by defeating 2011 defending champion Alexei Eltsov from Russia.

This year’s championship attracted outstanding athletes from 58 countries and territories around the world.

After the event, Vietnamese boxers will compete at the World Semi-professional tournament in Bangkok from March 21-24 as part of the 9th Amateur/Pro-AM Muay Thai World Championships from March 12-24.

Muay Thai kickboxing, commonly known as Muay, is a traditional martial art from Thailand in which athletes use their whole bodies to punch, kick and throw themselves at their opponents.
